The illustrious arrival of the new year often finds us contemplating our past accomplishments and disappointments.  The human part of our being seems to dwell solely upon unfinished tasks as well as events as we have categorized as absolute failures.
When I review the year that has past, I keep at the forefront of my mind two things: (1) do not judge yesterday by the knowledge and information you have today; the best decision possible was made with information available at that time.  The present does bring with it some new insights that were not available prior to this moment; if you had known differently, you would have acted differently. (2) There is no such thing as a bad decision. All decisions serve a singular purpose—to lead you along the path that will introduce you to yourself. It is only through seeming adversity that we become intimate with who we really are, how we truly feel and what we need to learn.
   See the Good

As you look back over your accomplishments and disappointments of the past year, resist the urge to label it “good” or “bad”.  Every experience comes into your life to introduce you to yourself.  Gibran says “ Your Living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your minds looks at what happens."
The Course of Miracles says “only your brothers can teach you who you are and lead you closer to the Creator.”  The goal of life’s curriculum regardless of the teachers we choose is “to know thyself.” When this has been fulfilled, we must move into the next experience, the next lesson. Nature is not stagnant, for in everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. All of our experiences have shaped us into the person we are today.  Once you realize that your “accomplishments” and “disappointments” were critical in molding you into the person you are today, you will begin to see the good in all things.  Any road that brings us closer to the Divine Mind is a good road.
Embrace the Discomfort

Because we are not always able to discern the prompting of the Divine, life’s trials and tribulations are inevitable. It is these experiences that force our soul to grow. Whenever I am experiencing any discomfort (feelings of anger, jealousy, illness or financial distress), I know what to do. During these times, I concentrate on my blessings and clear my mind of any unforgiving attitudes I may harbor. I think about the good things in my life and get busy looking for the new gems awaiting my discovery. I remind myself that everyone is trying to find their way back to Spirit and judging them is not my responsibility.
Find the Miracle

Every day is a miracle, a gift of Infinite Kindness. If our vision is unclouded, we will see that the valleys are indeed wrapped in gold, filled with absolute wonder and loaded with consciousness-raising experiences. No matter the outcome, it is good and very good.
Remember, life is too short to drink cheap champagne.
Dream Big!  Live the life you’ve imagined.

"Do not go gentle into that good night; find a hill worth dying for a take it; be the person you're waiting for; make today so awesome, that yesterday gets jealous and above all else do it YOUR way."
