Find Your Passion 101: Class is in Session

I am always asked how do I change my life and where do I start?  Another popular question is our society is rapidly deteriorating, how can I change it?  We ask these questions as if the answers can be found in our back pocket.  I believe the way to make a change is to find what you are passionate about and do it.  The world does not need another person to change it.  The world needs people to fulfill their destiny; to do the very thing you were born to do.  So if you want to see true, positive and permanent change, move past your fear and do that which unleashes your passion.

Unleashing your passion requires commitment and action.  Only you can do it.  You cannot delegate it, wish it into existence or resurrect it with angel dust.  It requires work and if you are ready to do the work, it is time to get started.

Step 1:  Ask your friends what they consider your strengths to be?  Usually people who are close to us are more familiar with our strongest and best qualities.   These are things that we normally do not consider to be extraordinary.

For the next step, get a timer and set it for 15 minutes.  I know it seems tough, but I do not want you to have any time to doubt yourself.

Step 2:  Get a sheet of paper and number the lines 1 - 10.  Now think back over the last few years and write down the events that made you feel alive, happy, creative and even powerful.  After you complete the list, review them and try to put them into categories.  Example, were you happiest when you were traveling, teaching, counseling, painting, etc.  Fifteen minutes are up.  Reset your timer for 5 minutes and get ready for step 3.

Step 3:  If you had 24 hours to live what would you do is a popular question used to help people discover their passion, but try it with this twist.  If you had 24 hours to live and could make an impact on someone’s life, what would you do?

Step 4:  What do you read about?  What do you secretly admire?

After completing the exercises, you should have a fairly clear idea of what excites you.  If you find that more than one thing excites you, prioritize them.

Commit 30 minutes a day for the next 30 days to researching and reading about the passions you have discovered.  This will allow you experiment, tweak and mold your idea into the very thing that you dream of.

Class is over.  Dream Big and live the life you have imagined.
