Breakfast Companions

I am frequently asked, how important are our thoughts?  I reply, thoughts have power and your word is your power.

Research shows in the course of a day we experience approximately 50,000 to 65,000 thoughts per day.  Note, I said experience, not think.  When we dwell on past situations that caused us emotion pain, we experience the pain all over again.  It is the same when we dwell on happy times; we re-live the happy experience.  Because we have so many thoughts, it is impossible to believe that you can control each one.  We cannot control all of our thoughts, but we think we can control or change the thoughts of someone else.

Everything you read states that we must think positive thoughts.  But with so many thoughts running through your head where do you start?

To make the change from a negatively charged life to a living a positive charged life, you start with the thoughts of which you are consciously aware.

First, as you become cognizant of any of the thoughts you have, try placing them in categories.  Are the vast majority of these thoughts positive, negative, healing, uplifting or mean-spirited?  Once you become aware of the quality of your thoughts, you can start the transformation process.  I am an adventure advocate, so be sure to make this fun.

Philippians 4:8 says “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  Researchers at the University of Pittsburg and Finland’s University of Helsinki have linked pessimistic attitudes to life threatening illness so breakfast is a great place to start.  Host a “Possibility Breakfast” with yourself.  Instead of having breakfast with your complaints, worries or fears, have breakfast with your hopes, dreams and possibilities.

Next, throughout the day, when you are aware of negative thoughts or feelings ask yourself “Is this thought true?”  “What is happening now that is causing me to experience this thought?”  Then, reach for a better thought by asking “Is this the best thought or feeling I can hold right now?”

These few steps will help you in transforming your life into an adventure to be celebrated.

Dream Big!  Life the life you have imagined.
